After spending the past 30 years in Management roles, with the last 20 at Area Management and Regional Management level in the retail food industry I decided it was time to make a change and look for a new challenge.
TDDA’s goal of “Creating Safer Environments” resonated with me as a husband, father and business owner. I have a real passion to see people and businesses succeed and unfortunately drug and alcohol abuse is one of the biggest threats in todays society.
I have also experienced first hand the impact that drugs can have on safety, productivity and team morale in the workplace.
As I researched TDDA it soon became clear that they are market leaders in their field and the experience in the company from the top down ensured that they were always striving to stay ahead of the game through product innovation and service delivery. This was also proven to me during my initial three weeks of training in the TDDA Head Office as everyone I met walked the talk about “Creating Safer Environments”.

When I’m out meeting with potential small to medium local clients a common concern that gets raised is that they worry about upsetting or making their employees feel uncomfortable with the prospect of workplace drug and alcohol testing.
In my experience the way to overcome this fear is through having TDDA conduct employee information/training sessions with their workers, specifically explaining their drug and alcohol policy. These sessions explain why drug and alcohol testing in the workplace should be conducted. We cover all the necessary information such as WHS legislation, privacy, how drug and alcohol testing is conducted and when drug and alcohol testing can be conducted in the workplace. Emphasising that the aim is to ensure everyone can come to work and feel safe in a “Drug Free Environment”.
Communication is the key to ensuring understanding and acceptance of any workplace drug and alcohol regime. All employees that I have tested who have attended a TDDA employee information session have a total understanding that it is all about creating safe, drug free environments for them to enjoy working in so that they get to go home to their families every day.
